Finding Peace in Uncertainty
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” – Philippians 4:6
We all face uncertainty–whether it stems from financial difficulties, job loss, sickness, relationships, mental health challenges, or other things that just make us feel unsure. Oftentimes our uncertainty rises up “in the waiting;” you know those times when we’re trusting God to move but nothing seems to be happening. We lack confidence and start to question our faith and, ultimately, we start to question our God. During these times, many of us wonder, “Is it me, God? Am I doing something to block my blessings? Have I done something wrong? Why am I still stuck in this place/predicament/circumstance? Are you still there?” If any of this sounds familiar, you’re not alone.
But take heart! God sees you, and He has a plan and purpose for your life. I heard a pastor say something to the effect of, “God’s timing doesn’t always align with our agenda.” As hard as it is, we have to learn to trust in His timing because, as the Bible says in Romans 8:28, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Just because we don’t see things happening, doesn’t mean God’s not working, because He is. Trust and believe that things will work out His glory and your good!
A Prayer For You
God, I thank you that I don’t have to be anxious about anything and I can bring everything to you, free of guilt, shame, or condemnation. I thank you for loving me and protecting me and I thank you for ensuring that all things are working together for your glory and my good. God, I want my life to bring you glory and I ask that you will fill me with your peace during my times of uncertainty. When I start to doubt your goodness, Lord remind me of the promises in your Word where you’ve said you are faithful to provide, where you’ve said that your love endures forever, and where you’ve said, you would never leave me nor forsake me. I praise you, Lord, and ask that in times of uncertainty, you will help me to be still and know that you are God! Remove my doubt and uncertainty, quiet my spirit, and comfort my heart as I wait patiently on you! In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
